Preparing your images for Augmented Reality

To create an AR preview, all you have to do is upload an image of your artwork to the app. But before you do, make sure your images follow these guidelines to get the best results:

Source Images

Your image should be a clean and clear representation of your artwork, taken from a flat, front-on view. Make sure there is no perspective skewing or shadows, and that there is no scenery in the image. If your images are not cropped to the edge of the art, you can use a free tool like Pixian to automate the removal of excess whitespace so your images will look right and scale correctly in the virtual view.

Framed Artwork

If your artwork is framed, make sure to include the frame in the source image. You'll need to prepare a separate source image for each frame variant, like different colors, materials, or sizes.

Cropping

Crop your image tightly to the edge of the artwork or outside edge of the frame (if it has one). There should be no white space or borders surrounding the image.

Resolution

Aim for your image to be around 1,200 x 1,200 pixels for optimal results. But don't worry too much about the exact size - we can work with lower or higher resolutions, too.

File Size

Keep your image file size around 1MB for best performance. The maximum file size that can be uploaded is 4MB.

Image Formats

We support WEBP, JPG, and PNG image formats.

Transparent Areas

If your product has transparent parts, like gaps between panels in a triptych print, make sure to use WEBP or PNG file formats and leave those parts of the source image transparent. These transparent parts will remain transparent in the AR preview.
